hanna meredith vassey was born on august tenth nineteen ninety-one in mystic falls, virgina to robert vassey and lila (morgan) vassey. she would be the middle child of three girls all born on the same day in consecutive years. her older sister was isobella, a.k.a. bella, and her younger sister was gabrielle. hanna was always the one to stay behind in the shadows and just observe. bella was the leader and it seemed like gabrielle was trying to be like her. but that all changed when hanna was eight. robert was tragically killed in a car accident. hanna was actually with him in the car when they were hit and it was a miracle that she survived. bella and gabrielle had been with their mother at home at the time. gabrielle took it the hardest, not speaking for two years. on the outside, hanna tried to stay strong. inside, she was weak. having witnessed her father's death was something that would not leave her mind and it deteriorated her internally. with gabrielle not speaking at all and bella spending time out in the woods, hanna was left to do nothing but be by herself. she tried to spend time with their mother when the other girls wouldn't and lila appreciated that. finally, when hanna was ten, gabrielle started to speak for the first time in two years and she couldn't have been happier. it wasn't much longer after that gabrielle discovered an talent for singing and songwriting and it turned out that she and bella had the same talents. all three girls sang together, especially when they wanted to remember their father and always on the day of his death. music became part of hanna's power. when she was fifteen she suddenly started possessing the abilities of a witch. bella had them too and gabrielle got them on her own fifteenth birthday. all the girls learned that robert was a warlock and that every blood born vassey inherited the craft. hanna didn't particularly like her powers, but she trained with bella and gabrielle using the notes their father had left them to study from. it was hardest for hanna since she was a slow learned. now at nineteen, hanna is almost a full witch. she hasn't completely mastered her powers yet but knows that she is close. and she is a college freshman, whereas gabrielle is a senior in high school and bella is a college sophomore.
